Pretty sure that's not the Akrapovic model for the R7.
It'll be either S-Y7R12-APT (the race/track model) or S-Y7R11-HAPT(the road legal version).

Assuming you have the S-Y7R12-APT there is a screw and a star washer to remove to take out the insert. Be careful not to drop those down the pipe.

From the parts diagram it doesn't look like the S-Y7R11-HAPT has a removable insert.
I have the S-Y7R11-HAPT and I removed my db killer.
The spot weld is where the other version would have the screw. Drill that though and pull (HARD, it's in there VERY snug).

My reasoning is that I wanted the cat but not db killer.

Oh really? Do you have pics of it afterwards?

Pic 1 is proof it's the cat/homologated version. The "race only"with removable db killer doesn't have the expansion near headers for cat insert.
Pic 2 and 3 how the db killer looks - aka awful. Literally barely any holes there.
Pic 5 db killer vaguely in the can. Didn't out it in all the way as i didn't sand down the edges yet for easy in/out, so didn't want to jam it in.
Pic 4 is can with no db killer and visible hole that i drilled for the spot weld. In the race version there's a screw to hold db killer in the same exact spot.

Edit: i out the last two photos wrong way around so my text is now now "chronological"

Nicely done!
Does the hole whistle a bit when you rev it?
I've had that issue with a SV650 Yoshi muffler.
