Oil Change frequency

Hello fellas!
Did my 600 mile first oil change today, and I already bought more for when I hit 1000. This is the first bike I own that is brand new and I want to keep it perfect. After I do my 1k miles oil change, how often should I be changing the oil after that?

Welcome!

What kind of riding do you do? Just cruising around or are you bouncing off the rev limiter all day? Somewhere in between? Some sporty riding mixed in with the cruising? Cruising with sporty mixed in, I'd change at 3k miles, the filter every other time. The more higher rev riding, the sooner. If I am doing two track days in a month I'll change it after the second one, not necessarily the filter, that depends on the last time changed. Changing the oil is not a hard and fast deal for me, it is all dependent on the riding, but I just consider it cheap insurance to change more frequently than the manufacturer suggestion, but that is completely based on my riding.

Reading this, I probably did not come close to answering your question.

Depends on the type of oil and the conditions you subject it to. Synthetic oil, long leisurely trips and low humidity you could get as much 10,000 miles. Mineral oil, short trips, hard riding, high humidity, maybe 2,000 miles.

You actually did help a lot, I have been doing a lot of cruising, but every here and there I’ll go… how do I say this, I go have fun on the side roads if you know what I mean, so it would be somewhere in between daily cruising and very hard riding.

Thank you so much! I will have to find my riding style because like I said on my previous reply, I cruise daily but every so often I go real loco!
