91 for optimum performance but 87 works just fine. Especially for a new rider.

There is nothing "optimal" about adding octane above 87 to a stock CP2 motor. Added octane allows you to add ignition advance which can add power, but if you don't add the advance you're just spending more for the same performance. Added octane slows down the burn rate of the fuel, potentially causing a decrease in power, although not enough to notice. Now, if the 91 is alcohol-free, that would be a good reason to pay the extra dollars, especially if your bike is going to sit for weeks at a time.

The only thing is that premium usually contains higher amounts of additives and detergents to 'clean up' your engine, injectors etc
Since we (me) have seasons here (in Lithuania) I fill up premium once a year, after winter, to basically flush the system, and then ride on regular for 8~ months.
