We've had some cop hassles about the integrated tail lights in the Southern California canyons, even stubbies, saying basically that they were not "far enough apart". They can and will cite you with a bogus ticket, which can get thrown out but you have to go through the courts to get that done. PITA
It usually comes up when people are being idiots and a complaint comes in, they will do equipment inspections on the bikes sitting there. Bunch of canyon guys with fixed up bikes, they will find stuff wrong. Or make it up.
Not in CVC but in Ca Code of Regulations, which is not what they cite you for.

Front and rear turn signal lamps on motorcycles shall be at least 23 cm (9 in.) apart, except that front turn signals on motorcycles manufactured after January 1, 1973, shall be at least 40 cm (16 in.) apart.
