Hey guys,

What are your rules regarding breaking in new motorbikes? Keen to hear everyone’s thoughts?

Welcome mate,
I tried following the guideline from Yamaha but didn't last look so I went with semi hard break in.
Kept it under 7000 RPM at all times but I did give it throttle.

Thanks mate, what guidelines did Yamaha give you. I forgot to ask all this as I was to excited at the time of pick up haha.
So you didn’t go above 7000 rpm for what the first 1000kms or so?

I tried to keep it to the Yamaha break in period but i would ring the bike out every once and a while. but after the 600 miles I stopped paying attention to it. I’ve always heard you should break in a vehicle how you are gonna drive it😂

Haha just interesting to see/hear everybody’s thoughts about it
Took mine straight to the track with zero miles on it no issues just changed the oil after that weekend.

How Yamaha engines are built now and the quality of the parts, this is the way!

Owner's manual specifies 0-600 miles to keep it under 5k RPM except for momentarily and keep engine load low and then same but 6k for miles 601-1000. Complete a first oil change at 600 miles. It was mentioned to me by the dealer that the break in oil is a lighter weight. Yamalube does make a mineral oil and so it wouldn't surprise me if there's mineral oil in for the initial break in but I'm not sure.

I have been doing my absolute best to stick to this schedule. The trouble is that in 4th gear and beyond there isn't much power below 5k and the manual also specifies low load and so cranking on the throttle (which isn't good for an engine anyway -- high gear, low rpm, high load) limits rideability.
Different bike but... I put 100 street miles on my 2022 R1, varying speeds and RPMs.
Then took it to Road America for a track day. 🙂
